Jose Alzorizz, 52, was the 19th cyclist killed in New York in 2019. His friends said that he was cautious on the roads, making this event all the more 'tragic'
This is the horrific moment a teenage driver allegedly raced through a red light at a quiet New York intersection and caused a crash that killed a cyclist and seriously injured a pedestrian. 
Cyclist Jose Alzorizz, 52, was pulling up at the crossroads when a grey sedan, driven by 18-year-old Umar Baig, allegedly ran a red traffic light. 
The sedan collided with a blue Honda SUV travelling across the junction and sent it spinning across the road before it hit Alzorizz as he waited to cross, trapping him underneath.    
Police said the one of the vehicles then mounted the pavement and seriously injured a pedestrian. 
Alzorriz is the 19th cyclist to die on the streets of New York this year.  'He didn't stand a chance, it was so fast,' witness Simon Gifter told [ He added that many 'good samaritans' tried to free Alzorizz who was trapped under the Honda.

Alzorriz did not die at the scene but suffered severe head injuries and could not be saved. 
Friends of the 52-year-old said he was an advocate for safe bike riding and even bought some of them helmets. 
One of his friends, Amanda Hanna McLeer, said that many of the victim's friends suffered from bike injuries so he was always very careful. 
He knew how 'important it was to be safe and that's why it's so tragic.'
Baig was released Sunday night as officers decided what to charge him with. 
The police said he wasn't under the influence of drugs or suspended from driving at the time of the accident. 
New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio called for a tough sentence with 'many years in prison because it's negligence.'
